Amid the rising tensions in U.S. Syrian relations, the Syrian regime has released Ahmad Abdul Karim Al-Saadi, aka Abu Mehjen, a Lebanon-based Palestinian Jihadist who was arrested several years ago when he travelled across Syria to fight the American military in Iraq. The Islamic Observatory Centre has said that Abu Mehjen's release after 6 years of detention has been received with celebratory fire in Ein El Helweh refugee camp (Sidon, South Lebanon), where his family resides.
The Centre has said that the release comes as an additional sign that the Syrian authorities have halted all security cooperation with the United States. They have previously released Abu Musab Al-Suri, and Abu Khaled, two known names among international Jihadists.
