Homs has been home to sectarian violence between the city's major confessional communities, especially Allawites, Sunnis and Christians. Today, Syrian activists posted the video of a massacre against Sunnis, allegedly committed by Allawites in the restive city of Homs. The current Syrian president and many of his security officials belong to the Allawite community, which comprises around 12% of the country's total population. Here is the video:

The video claims that the massacre was committed by Allawites in the Sabeel neighborhood. Sectarian violence has become common in Homs, in spite of attempts by dissident intellectuals to only raise inclusive nationalist slogans; it remains difficult to hide the regime's dominant Allawite factor.

Homs is a strategic city in Syria; it connects different parts of the country and it has many mixed neighborhoods like Damascus.
