Syrian Militants have launched a series of assassinations against the regular army that has been leading the crackdown on demonstrations and dissidents. Two high ranking generals have been assassinated, one in Damascus and the other in Deir el Zour. General Faisal Ahmad Zaher el Ersan, the Assistant director of Military intelligence in Deir el-Zour has been shot down by militants. Militants also shot down Dr. Issa Khawle, a General and a director of Hamish Military hospital in front of his Damascus home (an operation that signals a change of tactics).
Earlier reports have cited that the United States now believe that alQaeda militants are now active in Syria, and are behind both the Damascus and recent Aleppo bombings. Here is the report:
US officials are reported to believe that two recent bombings in Damascus were carried out by militants from al-Qaeda in Iraq, and that the Sunni extremist group was also likely behind the attacks in Aleppo. The officials cited US intelligence reports, which appeared to support President Assad's accusation that al-Qaeda was involved in attacks on Syrian government forces, according to the McClatchy Newspapers.

The Arab Digest has spotted last year Jihadists sharing alQaeda material on Syria. They have been fostered for years inside Syria as an effective tool against the U.S. occupation of Iraq, but it seems that this policy has now backfired.
